Hanging out in IRC Freenode #drupal-support and #drupal

If you're not hanging out in IRC chat then let me encourage you to do so.
Personally I use the ChatZilla for FireFox. It gets the job done even though it has no bells or whistles.
Regardless of the IRC Client you use...
Access the Freenode.net
You can get to the Drupal channels by typing
/join #drupal
Once there you can also open up a tab for the support channel
/join #drupal-support
I try to spend a 5 or more hours a week in the support room helping out when I can. Its very rewarding. Often I find that I have to research a question then answer it. I find myself learning as I help. And if I screw up an answer? YEP! There's always someone near by to lovingly call me out and steer me back to reality.
Over in #drupal you can actually watch people working on Drupal7! That is soooo cool. It's like a protective layer of glass keeping me safe from the functions, classes, APIs, and random pieces of code that get carelessly tossed around in those discussions!
It's also fun to chat with some of the cats that you see and hear on podcasts or the people that you see blogging or authoring modules.
Bottom line...
It's a great way to get involved with the community; learning, teaching, and just hanging!
If you decide to pop in... Look for me, and say "Hi!" My nick is dougvann

Thanks for passing that along. I'll be sure to let people know about this. That has got to be the easiest way to get connected!
